Festung Guernsey is an initiative instigated by professional groups and individuals with an interest in WWII fortifications. Our aim is to make available to the public, visiting historic societies and academics examples of the most important fortifications built in Guernsey by the German occupying forces between 1940-45.

Festung Guernsey volunteers have been working at Fort Hommet on a multi-phase project to install mains power at the headland. This ambitious project involves the installation of nearly 900m of cable and ducting across the headland. The project will allow better access to the various bunkers and will make access easier for the general public, visitors and tour guides. When completed it will allow the group to install better lighting and dehumidifiers inside the bunkers.
The project has been partly funded by the Tourism Management Board and partly by donation generated from open days. Digging the trenches has proven to be quite a challenge with a number of areas containing solid granite. Special excavating equipment has been used to overcome these issues.
The project is hoped to be completed in time for the 2025 season.
We always welcome new members who are interested in keeping up to date with our projects.
